The Fund’s Finance Committee is headed by Floyd
Mitchell, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. The committee is
comprised of nine committee members, a blend of Phi Sigma Pi members and
non-members who are all experts in the field, and seeks to create
financial policies and ensure the fiscal stability of the Endowment
Fund. They have a number of responsibilities; including identifying the
Endowment Fund’s policies and procedures and ensuring that the Fund is
operating in accordance to these metrics, as well as creating a
long-term investment strategy tailored toward the economic environment.
The committee is also committed to guiding the Endowment Fund through
sound financial decisions and fund reimbursement for all expenses,
working closely with the Treasurer of the Board.
As
a charitable non-profit entity, the Fund has strict guidelines set
forth by the IRS. It is the responsibility of the Finance Committee to
act as the regulatory body of the Fund, operate within the IRS
guidelines, and accurately report all information as needed. The Finance
Committee focuses on the immediate and long term financial needs of the
Endowment Fund and is currently working to develop an investment
strategy that will maximize the Fund’s operating monies. As the Phi
Sigma Pi, Alpha Tau Chapter Endowment Fund, Inc continues to grow; the
Finance Committee’s roles and responsibilities will continue to evolve
to meet the needs of the Fund and its objectives.

The Fund hosted its’ inaugural Family Reunion
Sunday Brunch on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Phillips Flagship on the
Washington, DC waterfront. There was no better way to end a marvelous
assortment of Howard University Homecoming festivities, than by having a
wonderful brunch with plenty of your closest friends and family
members. This was not your typical brunch, however, as there was a
magnificent food selection ranging from breakfast foods to an array of
lunch foods including crab, shrimp, and oysters.
Food
and fellowship were not the only highlights of this year's brunch. A
Chinese auction also occurred, with the proceeds going directly toward
the scholarships given out annually by the Fund. The different prizes
raffled off were gift certificates to Phillips Flagship, an autographed
Washington Redskins jersey, an impressive piece of artwork from the
Rachel D. Crouch Art Gallery , Microsoft software, Howard paraphernalia
from the Howard University Bookstore, jewelry from Unique Home Gifts and
Accessories, and many more. Gifts were also given to guests for
different 'superlatives' that were chosen by the fundraising committee,
such as best dressed, farthest traveler, and the eldest attendee, just
to name a few. The Phi Sigma Pi, Alpha Tau Chapter Endowment Fund, Inc.
would like to thank all of the committee members, guests, and sponsors
that made this year's Family Reunion Sunday Brunch a huge success. We
look forward to seeing you all next year, and of course, bring a friend!

Over the past two years, the Phi Sigma Pi, Alpha
Tau Chapter Endowment Fund, Inc has awarded five (5) scholarships to
deserving students in the tri-state region, worth $500 each. Thus far,
the Fund has given out $2500 in scholarship money, and most of the
students have used the money towards their enrollment fees to secure
their places at school. Currently, all five (5) students are attending
college and excelling in numerous ways. Take a look at some of their
accomplishments.
Tiante Baylor
of Washington, DC, is a freshman at Virginia State University and is
studying Sports Management. She was also awarded the Eli Broad
Scholarship and named Salutatorian of her high school graduating class.
Marnika Kitchings
of Washington, DC, is a freshman at Claflin University , where she is
majoring in Business with a concentration in Finance. She also received
the following scholarships: DC Tuition Assistance Grant, Bill &
Melinda Gates Scholarship, HEW Federal Credit Union Scholarship, and a PEPCO Scholarship.
Brittany Govan
of Washington, DC attends Bennett College for Women, majoring in
Elementary Education. She is currently a member of the Washington , DC
/Maryland Students Association, and will serve as Secretary for this
year’s Student Council Association of Educators.
Martinette Jennifer
of Washington, DC attends Bowie State University , majoring in
Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice. She has maintained a
high grade point average and is on the Dean’s List for 2008-2009 school
year.
Dionte McFadden
of Washington, DC is a freshman at Howard University , majoring in
Public Relations. He received several scholarships – enough to finance
his entire first year of college.
The
Fund is enormously proud of our past recipients and cannot wait to see
them continue to achieve their dreams. Any interested candidates for the

This past year has been an amazing one for the
Phi Sigma Pi, Alpha Tau Chapter Endowment Fund, Inc. The Fund began the
year with its Annual Spring Banquet, awarding scholarships to three (3)
very deserving students in the Washington , DC area. Filled with fun,
fellowship, and food – the banquet provided a chance for many to meet
and greet the recipients, as well as hear dynamic words from the keynote
speaker, Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke.
This
year’s banquet also marked the beginning of the Harold Gray, Sr.
Memorial Scholarship. At the end of 2008, The Board of Directors of the
Fund voted unanimously to rename one of their annual scholarships after
Mr. Gray. His untimely passing, just as the Fund was in the process of
securing him as the next keynote speaker for the banquet and his
commitment to many of the visions of the Fund, provided a unique
opportunity for the Fund and his family to join forces.
In
the summer, the Fund also welcomed its new Board of Directors. Staying
at Chair and Vice-Chair, Lloyd Freeman and Floyd Mitchell (respectively)
embraced the following new members into the Board –Ashley Denson, Steve
Mobley, Darby Baham, Morgan Grimes, Jerome Joseph, and ex-officio
member Brent Radcliff. Current Board Member Erika McDaniel was voted and
named Treasurer, while new member, Darby Baham was voted and named
Secretary.
